Story by: THANIN WEERADET

The Sunset Park Resort & Spa can be a unique place for a weekend holiday given its proximity to Pattaya. It is located on a peaceful and private beach strip in Sattahip 10-15 minutes' drive from a resort city.

The 53 -villa resort sprawls a copious 40 -rai strip fronted by the sea.

"We love trees and forest, therefore, we give more space to greenary," said the resort's planner Dr.Kunchit Kurmarohita. Each cottage is built predominantly with teakwood in Thai-style carving. The cottages sit separately from one another in a green setting. Most have attached roofless bath and shower specifically intended for nature lovers. A 200 -metre-long canal run through the resort.

The Resort comprises six Beach Villas, two Executive Beach Spa Suits, three Serene Garden Spas, 12 Bay Front, 13 Sea Breeze, and an assortment of Brook Side and Sunset Junior Villas. There are two swimming pools each with a jacuzzi, a gym, sauna facility, a library, internet service and a beach restaurant. There is a meeting room which can accommodate 200 people.

Other activities avalible a petanque, golf, tennis, darts, cycling and jogging etc.

Design work was carried out by Dr.Kunchit's sister , Khun Apsorn Kurmarohita.

The Resort has 12 tradinnal-style boats for people interested in paddling in the canal.

The Kurmarohita family bought this piece of land in 1952. The family already owner and runs 50 -cottage Sunset Village located a kilometre away on the Sunset Beach.

Bangalows made from bamboo with thatched roofs have won high praise from Western tourists staying at Sunset Village. They look for a peaceful holiday away from a crowd and like to stay in low-rise natural lodges. This type of accommonsation is not easy to find in Pattaya. Dr Kunchit noted.

According to Sunset Park's assistant managing director Rawiwan Kurmarohita, the resort will hold a grand opening in early 2004 when all the facilities are on place, by which time a Wanatara Spa and a large pool with five artificial waterfalls for hydro massage will have been added, not to mention spa cuisine.

She said the resort is 10 minutes' drive to Wat Yansangwararam, Nongnuch Park and Phoenix Golf Course. A Shuttle service is available to Nongnuch Park and Pataya city every day.

A boat trip to the neighbourhing island of Koh Khram and Kho Phai can also be arranged.

Ms.Rawiwan is confident the resort will be popular with Europeon Travellers and local tourists who travel from Bangkok to Pattaya on weekend.

"We will be doing more marketing to make us know amoung tourists," she noted, adding that her company will be attending in Thailand Travel Mart scheduled September 17-18 at Bangkok International Trade Exhibition Centre (Bitec) to gice their resort the right exposure. It's also developing a new website, www.sunsetpark.co.th, because an increasing number of travellers these days make reservations via the electronic mail.
